Emerson Summer 2025 Updates

Welcome to the latest edition of Emerson Cranes News! It has been a busy and exciting season for us, filled with new additions to our fleet, industry events and notable achievements. Here’s a roundup of what we’ve been up to:

Bauma Munich 2025

In April, our Managing Director, Liam, and Sales Director, Wayne, attended Bauma in Munich, the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery. There, they secured the purchase of two Liebherr LTM 1150-5.4 cranes, a great addition to our fleet.

These 150-tonne, 5-axle all-terrain cranes feature a 66-metre telescopic boom, a maximum hoist height of 92 metres and a maximum radius of 72 metres making them ideal for complex, large-scale lifts. Equipped with the advanced LICCON3 control system and new driver assistance features, they offer enhanced safety and efficiency.

Expected to arrive in 2026, these cranes will boost our capacity for intricate and high-profile projects.

Fleet Expansions

Volvo FH16 Tractor Units

We’re thrilled to welcome not one but two new Volvo FH16 Tractor Units to our fleet. The first, a 25-plate lorry, arrived fully wrapped last month, accompanied by a 24-plate model. These impressive vehicles, capable of carrying up to 150t GVW, will be pivotal for ballast transportation and will often head out together.

Liebherr LTM 1230 5.1

Our Basildon yard recently received a Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1, a 5-axle mobile crane with a 230-tonne load capacity and a 75-metre telescopic boom. Its award-winning VarioBase® support technology allows asymmetrical support for enhanced stability and greater lifting capacity, especially at the rear.

With VarioBase® Plus, it’s perfect for demanding jobs like tower crane assembly and wind turbine maintenance. The maximum hoist height reaches 111 metres with lattice extensions, about 10% higher than its predecessor. Four operators are currently undergoing specialised Liebherr training to operate this cutting-edge crane, which will be operational soon.

Exciting Future Arrivals

This November, we will take delivery of the UK’s first Liebherr LTM 1400-6.1. This six-axle crane features a 70-metre telescopic boom and advanced Y-guying technology, boosting lifting capacity to 400 tonnes. It offers a hoist height of up to 120 metres and a maximum radius of 96 metres, combining versatility with safety and efficiency. As the successor to the LTM 1350-6.1, it promises flexibility and ease of use. We’ll share visuals and details as delivery approaches.

Team Updates

New Business Development Manager

We are delighted to welcome Steve Palmer, who joined us as our Business Development Manager last week. Steve brings extensive knowledge and experience in the crane industry, making him a valuable asset to our growing team. His appointment is part of our strategic initiative to enhance client relations and broaden our project portfolio within the construction and infrastructure sectors.

Work Experience and Community Engagement

In May, we had the pleasure of hosting Lewis for a work experience placement in our Social Media and Marketing department. Lewis demonstrated exceptional creativity and dedication, contributing significantly to our campaigns. This initiative supports our ongoing collaboration with EKFB HS2 to inspire young talent in the Oxford region.

To clarify, EKFB HS2 is a joint venture between Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial, and BAM Nuttall, established to deliver civil engineering works for the High Speed 2 (HS2) project. HS2 is a high-speed railway designed to connect London with major cities across England, including Birmingham, Manchester, and Leeds. EKFB is responsible for an 80km section of the rail line, spanning from the Chiltern Tunnel to Long Itchington Wood.

As part of this collaboration, we actively engage in community outreach. This Friday, we will visit a local school to showcase the diverse career opportunities available within the crane and construction industries. Such initiatives aim to spark interest in engineering and construction among young people while highlighting our commitment to social responsibility.

Recognition and Awards

Our contributions to the HS2 Project during periods 2 and 3 of 2024 were recognised with a prestigious Certificate of Achievement from EKFB HS2. This acknowledgment celebrates our team’s exceptional performance and dedication.

The award was personally presented by William Macdonald and Phil Hentall during a visit to the Banbury site, where our Liebherr 450-tonne crane played a pivotal role in the project’s success. EKFB’s recognition underscores the significance of precision and collaboration in delivering on the ambitious goals of HS2. We are incredibly proud of our team’s hard work and their unwavering commitment to excellence.

Special Projects

In April, our Liebherr LTM 1450 8.1 played a starring role in a television project, performing a challenging lift in South East London. This operation showcased our expertise and precision, lifting a unit over a residential home into a back garden. Imagery from this project will be shared once the show airs.

Game of Cranes Competition

We’re excited to announce our participation in Liebherr’s Game of Cranes competition. Liebherr’s “Game of Cranes” is a global competition to find the best mobile crane operator. It’s a way for Liebherr to showcase the skills and expertise required to operate mobile cranes, with participants judged on safety, dexterity and technical understanding.

We’re currently selecting an operative to represent Emerson Cranes. Stay tuned for updates and get ready to support us when voting opens. For more information, visit Liebherr Game of Cranes.
