Emerson Cranes has added the Liebherr LTM 1400-6.1 to its fleet, marking the first machine of its kind in the United Kingdom. This 400-tonne all-terrain crane offers unmatched versatility, bridging the gap between smaller and larger lifting projects while delivering enhanced efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
Exceptional Versatility
The LTM 1400-6.1 is capable of handling projects normally suited to 300t, 450t, and 500t cranes. Its 6-axle design enables complex lifts traditionally reserved for 8-axle machines, making it highly adaptable for urban construction sites, tower crane assembly, and inner-city logistics.
Streamlined Transportation
The 6-axle configuration allows the crane to travel under 80 tonnes, reducing restrictions on routing. This capability often removes the need for police escorts and associated costs, offering a significant logistical advantage in urban and restricted environments.
Advanced Lifting Technology

Equipped with Liebherr’s Y Guy lifting system, the LTM 1400-6.1 can lift heavier loads with enhanced boom support, comparable to 450t, 500t, and 650t machines. The Y Guy can travel on the boom or be removed on-site within 30 minutes to adjust weight, providing flexibility for varying project requirements.
The crane features multiple configurations, including:
- T: Main Boom
- Y: Y Guy
- N: Luffer
- TYVEF: Fixed Fly Jib with Excentric
Innovative VarioBase and VarioBallast
The LTM 1400-6.1 is the first large crane to feature infinite VarioBase adjustment between 0% and 50%, enhancing stability for complex lifts. VarioBallast technology allows high-capacity lifts with reduced counterweight. The adjustable counterweight radius ranges from 5.6m to 7.7m, reducing transportation requirements and lowering costs for clients.
Unmatched Safety
Safety is a core focus for Emerson Cranes. The LTM 1400-6.1 includes three AI-assisted safety sensors covering moving off, reversing, and blind spots. The blind spot sensor identifies people within unsafe zones, providing real-time alerts to prevent accidents during manoeuvres.

Benefits for UK Construction
With its combination of flexibility, transport efficiency, high lifting capacity, and advanced safety systems, the LTM 1400-6.1 is ideal for:
- Inner-city construction projects
- Tower crane assembly
- Complex civil engineering tasks
- Projects requiring high-capacity lifts with reduced counterweight
The LTM 1400-6.1 represents a step forward for UK lifting capabilities. Emerson Cranes’ investment in this machine reflects a commitment to innovative solutions that enhance project efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain the highest safety standards.
